On 24th Oct 2019, the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro opened up the visa on arrival for Indian citizens. So, Indian citizens can now visit Brazil with a valid passport and return flight tickets, after clearing the immigration at one of the airports in Brazil. However, considering the long queues at the airports, one may want to consider applying for the visa before the travel. For Indian passport holders, Brazil visa process involves the following,

  1. Document Preparation: Most of the applicants take about 3 to 4 days towards the preparation of documents (refer the below checklist for more details).

  2. Submission: The documents shall be submitted to the Embassy in person or by a third party.

  3. Processing: Embassy officials will start the approval process with the review of your documents. It usually takes around 6 to 8 working days for the whole approval process.

  4. Despatch: The stamped passports will be couriered to you directly, or to the address that you’ve requested it to. Usually, the duration of the entire process is about 15 days, including the despatches. However, during the peak travel months, this could go up to 25 working days.

Summary: To summarise, if one intends to apply for the prior visa, it's advisable to be early by at least 25 days to be able to finish the application process.

  1. Prepare all documents in A4 size

  2. Ensure that all the scan copies are clear and readable

  3. Do not staple any of the documents

  1. Original Passport along with the photocopies of the applicant,

    1. Must not be older than 10 years, with at least 6 months validity

    2. Must have at least 2 blank pages to affix visa

    3. Must submit all the old passports along, if any

  2. Visa application form (online) to be completed

  3. Two recent coloured photographs,

    1. Must be less than 3 months old, not used earlier for any visas

    2. Should be of 45 MM X 35 MM in dimensions, with 80% head coverage

    3. Should be on a white background, matte finish non-smiling, not scanned/stapled

  4. Covering letter - to be addressed to The Visa Officer, The Embassy of Brazil, New Delhi, mentioning the duration of visit, purpose, expenses, details of all applicants with their names and passport numbers

  5. Complete travel itinerary

  6. Hotel confirmation vouchers, for all the nights, with the hotel name, address, telephone number and email ID, along with the payment receipts

  7. Original and updated bank statement for the last 3 months, with the bank’s seal and signature of the authorised person at bank

  8. Income Tax Returns (ITR) or Form 16, filed for last 3 years

  9. Address proof, if the applicant has passport that's issued in a city other than New Delhi - address proof on company's letter head, signed & sealed by authorised signatory

  10. Occupation proof, as per below

    1. For Employed applicants,

      1. Employment certificate/offer letter

      2. NOC/leave letter sanctioned by authorised official

      3. Payslips of last 6 months

    2. For Proprietor/owner applicants,

      1. Cover letter on company’s letter head

      2. Company’s original bank statement, with bank’s seal & signature

      3. Income Tax Returns (ITR) of the company for last 3 years

      4. Company memo/partnership deal/establishment license

    3. For Students applicants,

      1. Leave letter or report card issued from School

      2. School ID

      3. For minors (less than 18 years), travelling alone or with one parent - notarised NOC from non-traveling parent, along with signed passport copy

    4. For Sponsored applicants,

      1. Proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation

    5. For Retired applicants,

      1. Proof of retirement

      2. Pension statements of last 3 months

      3. Proof of regular income generated by ownership of property or business

  11. For applicants who has family/friends in Brazil,

    1. Original invite letter

    2. Sponsorship letter, stating the declaration of expenses

    3. Financial documents of the sponsor

    4. Proof of relationship with the inviter

  12. For business visas,

    1. Covering letter from the company in India

    2. Invitation letter from the company in Brazil, mentioning the details as below,

      1. Information of the applicant (name, gender, passport number, DOB)

      2. Purpose of visit, financial documents, travel dates, duration

      3. Information about inviting company (name, contact, gender, business details)
